Letter Body:
Thank you Catherine but I have decided not to participate in the discussion
on the proposed Health Canada Act.
Unfortunately from past experience I have become very cynical about how
government bureaucrats implement
change. Public consultations are ways that those in government can say 'the
public was consulted' when in truth
they are exercises only to be able to say that.
I am very disappointed in the direction Health Canada is attempting to go
in...marrying acts that regulate
hazardous and harmful products with safe products.
Also that the direction of this new Act goes against the spirit of bill
C420, a bill passed by elected members
of Parliament.
We are unfortunately living in a time where illusion seems to be more
valuable than integrity. It is sad to me,
but then historically what we do is create huge lessons for the masses as we
become a society that can barely
function under the heavy hand of government regulators. Funny how history
always repeats itself.
Thank you for the invitation and if I felt that those in attendance were
sincerely looking for the publics input
in order to serve Canadians better I would participate. I have experienced
twice in the past that these things are nothing more than an exercise on
illusion.
Sincerely,
Lesley Punt
