Monsanto hiding more information on GMO's?
<<< Back to main page
What are the health consequences of eating food that has been genetically
modified? At this point, nobody knows. But recent tests by Monsanto
provide a clue.
Monsanto published part of a confidential 1,200-page report on effects
observed in lab rats that were fed GM corn. The corn had been modified to
kill rootworm, a pest that naturally preys upon corn crops. The research
showed that these rats developed abnormalities in their internal organs and
changes in their blood - which did not happen with the control rats that ate
non-GM corn.
According to an article by Geoffrey Lean of The Independent (reprinted in
Common Dreams
www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0522-03.htm),
"Monsanto dismissed the abnormalities in rats as meaningless and due to chance."
Right. The company also refused to release the rest of the report, claiming that
"it contains confidential business information which could be of commercial use
to our competitors."
