GE, Shiv Chopra, Suzuki, etc event

Dear Chapter activists-

I am writing with some exciting news and an excellent organizing opportunity for your chapter!

The 'GE-Free BC' campaign is gathering steam and we finally have a target launch date for April 7/8 in Vancouver. We are planning a press conference the morning of April 7 or 8 at one of the Capers stores (we hope) and then a public event the evening of Friday, April 8 at Christ Church Cathedral. We've had a heck of a time getting a venue and a date that jives with everyone's schedules, but - by George - I think we have it now!

We are in the process of inviting Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Shiv Chopra, Dr. Warren Bell and others to speak to the issues of a GE-Free BC, Canada's Food Security under changing federal regulations, and the vision of an independent food production system for BC and Canada. Nadege Adam will also join us for the launch and the event.

Dr. Chopra has said he is willing to visit chapters to talk about Bill C-27 and the future of Canada's food security for several days before he's scheduled to appear before the Agricultural Commission on C-27 on April 12 in Ottawa.

Given the smashing success of last year's Percy event, I hope those of you in this group will be willing and able to come together again to organize this event. While most of us are intensely focussed on the upcoming elections from now until May 17, I feel and many of the chapters that I have spoken to feel that food security in BC is a legitimate and necessary election issue that the BC region of the Council could take a strong position on.

I would like to propose that we meet on Wednesday March 2 or Thursday March 3 at the BC Regional office at 5:30pm to talk about the event, including: fundraising, media, delegation of work, etc. I hope to have a concrete answer then as to who is confirmed to speak.
