GOOD NEWS just in.

This, from Peter:

CALDERDALE COUNCIL KNOCKS WATER FLUORIDATION FOR SIX 24/07/2003

"Craig Whittaker (Conservative - Brighouse) proposed a motion last night at the Town Hall in Halifax for Calderdale Council to re-affirm their opposition to water fluoridation.

After Councillor Whittaker's incisive presentation an short debate followed. Where councillors raised supplementary points in opposition to fluoridation and in support of the motion. NOBODY SPOKE IN FAVOUR.

Re-affirm their opposition they did, Only one councillor voted against with approx 3 abstentions. A short round of applause followed the vote.

This, from John (Green Party), via Noel:

At full Council yesterday (Lancaster City Council) a motion proposed by me and seconded by Chris Coates against fluoridation was passed. Labour spoke against the motion and in favour of poisoning the water. Lib Dems wanted the whole thing deferred "to get more information". We beat off the Lib Dem deferral amendment and went on to a good debate and the vote was:

26 in favour of the motion
15 against
6 abstentions.

Success!

Whatever the vote may be in Parliament on 8 September, the local elected representatives are showing their opposition and protecting the rights of their constituents.

Best to all - Jane
