Greetings and CONGRATULATIONS Queensland.
re. "Sunday Mail" readers vote NO to Water Fluoridation.
You might have already seen this, however, I have attached the latest poll on fluoridation conducted in Queensland and the vast majority of respondents have voted NO to water fluoridation. This poll was conducted by the "Sunday Mail" and was only a phone-in poll, however there was an overwhelming NO NO NO.
The Brisbane Lord Mayor, Campbell Newman, has stated that outer Brisbane councils, that draw their water from the Brisbane grid, will be consulted before a decision is made. Logan City Council has voted against fluoridation and the majority of councillors in the Pine Rivers and the Redcliffe Councils are also opposed to water fluoridation. Some ALP councillors on the Brisbane City Council are also opposed to water fluoridation, but at this stage we don't know how many.
The Cairns City Council looked at this issue earlier in the year after receiving an "in-depth" submission from the CEO of "Cairns Water". After consideration, the Council decided to reject water fluoridation for Cairns.
The Peter Beattie Labor Government, does not want to get involved with this issue. They rightly believe that any decision should be a local council decision. They also know that it is a "no win" situation and they can only lose votes if they make a decision one way or the other. When I spoke with Peter Beattie at the Community Cabinet meeting function in Innisfail on the 1st August, he made it quite clear that he was annoyed that Party policy was changed at State Conference from "no-policy" to a "pro-policy".
