April 17, 2004

Dear All,

We have just received this news from contacts in the UK: the WORLD CONGRESS OF PUBLIC HEALTH 2004 will occur in Brighton next week (April 19-22). This event is sponsored by the World Federation of Public Health Associations(WFPHA) and over 55 public health organisations from the UK and around the world. With the British Fluoridation Society in attendance and with the event occuring so soon after the passage of the fluoridation supporting Water Bill in the UK, this is likely to be the venue for a renewed effort to get public health officials in the UK and other countries very excited about getting on with water fluoridation. Such a possibility is further underlined by some of the key speakers listed in the schedule (see below). These include Mr. Michael Martin, the Minister of Health and Children in Ireland, who orchestrated the totally bogus Fluoridation Forum report, which whitewashed Ireland's mandatory fluoridation policy and Melanie Johnson, MP, UK Minister for Public Health, who was quoted in the UK press as saying words to the effect that "with fluoridation you can throw away your toothbrushes."

So if you live in the UK or other European countries please contact Peter Crampton at [email protected] to find out what you can do to counteract this potential "love fest" for fluoridation.

If you live in other countries be warned that you can anticipate delegates from this conference returning all fired up to renew their efforts to fluoridate your country, or any communities holding out against this archaic and undefendable practice.
