Aspirin triggers a potentially deadly allergic reaction in one in five asthmatics, according to new research published in the BMJ. However, most asthma sufferers are not warned of the dangers. Researchers from King's College Hospital, London, found that 21 per cent of adults and five per cent of children with asthma are sensitive to aspirin. Of these 98 per cent are also at risk of an attack if they take ibuprofen, 93 per cent are sensitive to diclofenac and 100 per cent to naproxen, used to treat rheumatic pain. The researchers have called for large warnings to be printed on all products containing aspirin, and are concerned that many asthmatics may not realise that flu powders and headache pills contain aspirin.
